About The Scala Cinema And Arts Centre
The Scala Arts Centre development is the result of much commitment, hard work and tenacity and the generosity of a number of individuals and funding bodies. The ambition of the Scala Prestatyn Company is to make the centre a major cultural and entertainment destination for North Wales.
As Wales' first fully digital cinema the Scala represents a whole new experience for local cinema-goers. The two 150 seat screens feature state of the art high definition digital projection systems offering a quality and flexibility to the cinema which is unrivalled in any other Welsh cinema.
The quality of the projection system is matched by the auditorium itself with specially sourced comfortable seating designed to make the viewing experience even more special. Why not take a tour of the building
Digital projection systems are the latest thing, and allow new local cinemas like the Scala to have unprecedented flexibility and quality in programming movies to meet a range of local needs. Forget hairs and fluff being projected unwittingly with a tired 35mm film print; digital is high quality, every time. It is a lot simpler to operate too. Movies are still shot on film, but are digitised to a very high resolution by the studios and issued to the cinema in encrypted discs.
A digital cinema like the Scala can screen a normal DVD, a YouTube clip, games, live TV feeds, pretty much anything that audiences are used to in the modern information age.
The projection equipment was supplied by Future Projections Ltd and is a Barco DP1500 projector linked to a Kodak JMN-3000 server. Watch out for a range of new and exciting educational uses for the Scala’s digital systems.
