In 1977, George Lucas released Star Wars, the ultimate sci-fi popcorn flick-turned-pop-culture myth machine. It quickly became the biggest money-making film of all time and changed the shape of the film industry. After two successful sequels (1980's The Empire Strikes Back and 1983's Return of the Jedi) that extended the story of the first film, Lucas took some time off to produce movies for others, with mixed success. In 1999, Lucas returned to the Star Wars saga with a new approach -- instead of picking up where Return of the Jedi left off, Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace would be the first of a trilogy of stories to trace what happened in the intergalactic saga before the first film began. Here, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) is a young apprentice Jedi knight under the tutelage of Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson); Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), who will later father Luke Skywalker and become known as Darth Vader, is just a nine-year-old boy. When the Trade Federation cuts off all routes to the planet Naboo, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are assigned to settle the matter, but when they arrive on Naboo they are brought to Amidala (Natalie Portman), the Naboo queen, by a friendly but opportunistic Gungan named Jar Jar. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan plan to escort Amidala to a meeting of Republic leaders in Coruscant, but trouble with their spacecraft strands them on the planet Tatooine, where Qui-Gon meets Anakin, the slave of a scrap dealer. Qui-Gon is soon convinced that the boy could be the leader the Jedis have been searching for, and he begins bargaining for his freedom and teaching the boy the lessons of the Force.
<scala:showing><scala:day>Thursday 9th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Friday 10th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Saturday 11th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>10:45</scala:time><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Sunday 12th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>15:15</scala:time><scala:time>18:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Monday 13th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>10:45</scala:time><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Tuesday 14th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>10:45</scala:time><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Wednesday 15th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Thursday 16th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>10:45</scala:time><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Friday 17th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Saturday 18th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>13:30</scala:time><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Sunday 19th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Monday 20th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Tuesday 21st Feb</scala:day><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Wednesday 22nd Feb</scala:day><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing><scala:showing><scala:day>Thursday 23rd Feb</scala:day><scala:time>16:15</scala:time><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing>

The Iron Lady

A look at the life of Margaret Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with a focus on the price she paid for power.
<scala:showing><scala:day>Thursday 2nd Feb</scala:day><scala:time>14:30</scala:time><scala:time>17:00</scala:time><scala:time>19:30</scala:time></scala:showing>

War Horse

Follows a young man named Albert and his horse, Joey, and how their bond is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War One. A new play by Nicholas Wright

How had a twenty–two–year–old pretentious layabout made a discovery that would elude everyother cinematic pioneer for years to come?

In a remote village in Eastern Europe, around 1900, the young Motl Mendl is entranced by the flickering silent images on his father’s cinematograph. Bankrolled by Jacob, the ebullient local timber merchant, and inspired by Anna, the girl sent to help him make moving pictures of their village, he stumbles on a revolutionary
way of story-telling. Forty years on, Motl – now a famed American film director – looks back on his early life and confronts the cost of fulfilling his dreams.

Following Vincent in Brixton and The Reporter, Nicholas Wright’s new play is a funny and fascinating tribute to the Eastern European immigrants who became major players in Hollywood’s golden age. The award-winning Antony Sher – whose previous work with the National Theatre includes Primo and Stanley – returns to play Jacob.
<scala:showing><scala:day>Thursday 9th Feb</scala:day><scala:time>19:00</scala:time></scala:showing>
